SUMMARY
Generating Capacity Statistics
Introduction
This statistical package of databases is compiled to provide information about
three aspects of the power generation industry: the size, history and
development of generation capacity in every country, its composition by energy
source, and analysis of the power plants which deliver it, both present and
planned. The statistics in the database package are contained in six sets of
spreadsheets.
- generating capacity (MW), historical and forecast
- present and future new capacity (MW), capacity reaching 40 years of age
- analysis of capacity (MW) by fuel source, historical and forecast
- electricity generation (GWh), historical
- existing power plants, 2006
- new generation projects in the pipeline, 2006
The databases have been combined into 3 packages, addressing three aspects of
the generation industry. They can be purchased all together in one combination
package, or as separate packages.
The data in these databases is constantly changing. Not only is new data added
regularly but figures are sometimes changed retrospectively. ABS has
maintained the databases with regular up-dates since its inception in 1991.
All databases cover each of 184 countries separately.
The 3 Packages
1. Power generating capacity
PP5 -Power Predictor Report & Database package, is in its 5th edition. It is
designed to provide a comprehensive quantitative outline of power generating
capacity and its expansion with new projects. The package consists of a report
which contains analysis with extensive descriptive graphics and a series of
Excel files which contain four sets of data.
1. Historical generating capacity (MW) from 1970-2005, and forecasts from
2005-2020
2. Historical generating capacity (MW) from 1950-2005 for selected countries
3. Forecasts of new additions and 40 year old plant (MW) due for
decommissioning
4. New Generation Projects Global Database planned or under construction,
1,940 projects listed with capacity (MW), fuel and status of completion (This
database can be purchased separately, see paragraph 7 below)
A fifth set of data will be introduced with PP6 in early 2007
5. Historical generation (GWh) from 1950-2003
Also contained are 30 tables and 149 charts of historical generating capacity
in all major countries. Price:
