SUMMARY
The history of 3G has included times of wild exuberance and crushing
criticism. Through it all, though, business users have been at the forefront
of 3G adoption, using notebook computers to connect to Internet services
through 3G modems. Today, 3G network deployment is expanding rapidly,
particularly in the US with deployments of CDMA EV-DO (ALLTEL, Sprint Nextel,
Verizon Wireless) and UMTS (Cingular Wireless), who continue to court business
users.
This report, based on In-Stat?s annual Business Mobility Survey of more than
1,000 users of wireless for business (conducted in April-May 2006), analyzes
interest in 3G service by size of business, recommends monthly pricing for 3G,
and considers the effect of Wi-Fi as competition or complement to 3G.
