SUMMARY
Summary
Wireless LAN (WLAN) equipment that provides wireless access to a company
network, and portable devices that are wirelessly enabled, require businesses
to employ a variety of security mechanisms to protect their operations and
assets.
This report examines the type and volume of wireless devices that In-Stat has
forecasted for the business segment. Both WLAN client and equipment forecasts
are included to quantify the continued proliferation of wireless in the
business premises.
The report also reviews the technology and security standards that have
influenced the market. Past, current, and planned standards are discussed,
including IEEE 802.1i and the controversial WAPI standard from China. In
addition, the report takes a look at the state of wireless security in
business today by presenting the results of a recent end-user survey.
Finally, the report identifies two addressable markets for wireless security
and provides a five-year forecast for each.
