Egis Company Intelligence Report
Egis has three manufacturing sites, all in Hungary; two in Budapest, one of
which was set up in the 1980s, and one at Körmend, near the border with
Austria. The Budapest sites manufacture bulk chemicals, tablets, capsules and
injectables; the packaging plants and finished product stores are also here.
The Körmend plant produces and packages tablets, ointments, suppositories,
solutions, syrups and aerosols. Egis has 18 subsidiaries under its direct
control; six in Hungary, and another 12 abroad. Additionally, the company also
has seven indirect subsidiaries, all of which are in Hungary. Egis currently
also has 20 representative offices across the world; the company has a
presence in a variety of markets, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus,
Brazil, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Moldavia,
Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Vietnam. Egis employs around 2,700
members of staff.
Egis has had shares listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange since 1994. However,
although it is a Hungarian company, Hungarian investors currently only make up
around 6% of its ownership. The majority owner of Egis is the French firm
Servier, which has 51% of the company's shares.
