SUMMARY
Sandoz, currently based in Vienna, Austria, is the generics business of
Novartis, and makes up part of Novartis' Consumer Health Division. This report

Prior to Sandoz' re-branding in May 2003, Novartis' generics business had been
made up of 14 separate firms. The re-branding was completed in 2005, with the
exception of Lek, which remains a separate Slovenia-based company for the time

the world. Sandoz currently employs over 20,000 people in 110 countries. It
operates through three business franchises:
- The Pharmaceuticals Business produces finished dosage forms, which

- The Biopharmaceutical Business draws on the company's experience with
biotechnology, and is expanding to meet demand;
- The Industrial Business manufactures active pharmaceutical
ingredients and their intermediates for internal requirements and industrial
partners.
