SUMMARY

Sandoz, currently based in Vienna, Austria, is the generics business of Novartis, and makes up part of Novartis' Consumer Health Division. This report provides an insight into the company, reviewing its current business structure and activities.

Prior to Sandoz' re-branding in May 2003, Novartis' generics business had been made up of 14 separate firms. The re-branding was completed in 2005, with the exception of Lek, which remains a separate Slovenia-based company for the time being. The company is one of the largest generic pharmaceuticals businesses in the world. Sandoz currently employs over 20,000 people in 110 countries. It operates through three business franchises:

- The Pharmaceuticals Business produces finished dosage forms, which are sold to pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare outlets;

- The Biopharmaceutical Business draws on the company's experience with biotechnology, and is expanding to meet demand;

- The Industrial Business manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients and their intermediates for internal requirements and industrial partners.

This report provides information on the company's active product lines and ANDA approvals, along with a review of major developments, such as M&A activity, strategic alliances and litigation. The company's most recent quarterly and annual financial results are illustrated with comparative figures, charts and a detailed review of the data which allows you to track the company's progress.
