SUMMARY
Key Findings - The world oilfield equipment industry will register moderately healthygains through the mid/latter part of the decade, fueled by further recoveryfrom the global economic slowdown of the early 2000s.
- Economic recovery and expansion will create rising demand for energyproducts, which will result in some firming in crude petroleum prices. This,in turn, will stimulate crude oil exploration and production activity, directly benefitting markets for oilfield machinery and equipment of alltypes.
- In addition, recent and near-term geopolitical developments could havea profound impact on intermediate- to-long term prospects for the oilfieldequipment industry. In particular, ongoing Middle East violence and potentialconflict in Iraq have created uncertainties that could temporarily push upworld crude oil prices, leading to renewed investment in exploration andgenerating demand for related equipment.
- More generally, increasing crude oil production in less traditionalsupplying nations such as Vietnam and the Congo (Brazzaville) -- coupled withongoing modernization of the vast Russian crude oil complex -- portendconsiderable opportunities for suppliers of oilfield machinery and equipmentgoing forward.
- Similarly, numerous of the larger Africa/Mideast suppliers haveambitious plans to raise crude production capacity by mid-decade, which, ifrealized, will stimulate still further demand for equipment.
- By contrast, maturity and declining output of fields located in theUS, UK and elsewhere will work to suppress oilfield equipment markets in thesecountries, although there will be some opportunities in repair/maintenance andenhanced oil recovery activities.
- Despite a fairly brisk pace of acquisition and divestiture activityover the past couple of years or so, further consolidation is expected in theworld oilfield equipment industry going forward, as producers jockey toposition themselves in key geographic growth markets.
Study Coverage Details on these and other findings are available in the new Freedoniastudy, World Oilfield Equipment. The study provides historical data to2001 as well as forecasts through 2006 and 2011 for oilfield equipment marketsby type (rotary drilling machinery, portable drilling rigs, field productionequipment, pumps and valves, etc.) in 6 regions and 28 countries. It alsopresents market share data and profiles leading manufacturers worldwide, including the likes of ABB, Baker Hughes, Halliburton, Technip and Weatherford. TABLE OF CONTENTS
