However, facilities in these regions have limited capabilities to tackle 3G technologies such as enhanced data GSM environment (EDGE). Since tests on 3G standards are likely to go on until the end of 2005, China is expected to start issuing licenses from mid 2006, just before the 2008 Olympics to be held in Beijing.
