SUMMARY
Abstract This study presents IDC's most recent Internet banking forecasts for the period from 2002 through 2006. Eight countries are compared across various metrics including Internet penetration, population, Internet banking users as a share of population, Internet banking users as a share of Internet users, and the absolute number of Internet banking users. All figures are for active users, which are those who have logged in at least once in the last three months. Readers interested in the following information are encouraged to purchase this study: - Forecasts on Internet banking growth
- Comparisons across eight key markets
- Insight into the relationship between Internet usage and Internet banking
By the end of 2002, there were more than 16.8 million customers actively banking online across the eight surveyed markets, and this is expected to grow to more than 45.4 million by 2006. This growth will have serious implications on the manner in which financial services are delivered, and will challenge institutions to develop suitable strategies. Those institutions, which fail to do so, will risk obsolescence in the years ahead. "It is difficult to stress just how important the long-term implications of a shift to the Internet channel will be. How retail institutions respond to this changing service delivery model will help determine their relevance in the lives of customers going forward," notes Douglas A. Jaffe, Research Manager, Asia/Pacific Retail Financial Services. TABLE OF CONTENTS
