SUMMARY
This study presents IDC's latest 2004-2009 forecast for IT spending by
healthcare providers in the United States. In addition to overall healthcare
provider IT spending, IDC forecasts the market by IT segment (hardware,
software, and IT services) and by subindustry (hospitals, offices and clinics,
and other healthcare delivery services).
"The overall IT market growth forecast is cause for celebration, but there are
divergent views to appeal to, and vendors cannot reach the middle of this play
and the suddenly realize that many healthcare providers have always been
reluctant to view themselves as 'businesses,'" said Scott Tiazkun, senior
research manager, U.S. Healthcare ITO. "Vendors still need to approach
healthcare providers with a delicate balance of IT wizardry and hat-in-hand
humility."
