The East Asian Large Size TFT LCD Panel Industry, 2004 and Beyond

SUMMARY

In the fourth quarter of 2004, East Asian large-size TFT LCD panel shipments increased 14.3% sequentially to 38 million units, registering 31.2% year-on-year growth. Continuing pressure from excessive panel supply drove ASP down 17.4% sequentially, to US$181.4. Despite higher shipments, overall shipment value fell 5.6%, to just over US$7 billion. In the first quarter of 2005, capacity will likely continue to expand. With panel supply growing faster than market demand, the panel industry is expected to suffer from further panel oversupply.
