SUMMARY

Falling LCD panel prices and a reversal in the wait-and-see attitude among consumers drove LCD monitor shipments to 14 million units in the fourth quarter of 2004, a historic high. 2004 Taiwanese LCD monitor shipments reached 40 million units, a 40% year-on-year increase. Though LCD monitors have entered the low-profit stage, Taiwanese LCD monitor makers are supported by the growing strength of Taiwanese TFT LCD panel makers. It is expected that beginning in 2005 large Taiwanese OEM suppliers should grow even larger, and overall shipment growth should be sustained.
