SUMMARY
With sales of handheld devices such as PDAs that lack voice communications
capability falling steadily, Smartphones that incorporate voice communications
functions are becoming the mainstream handheld device model. Leading IT
vendors have been expanding their product lines to include Smartphone
products. At the same time, faced with a contraction in the volume of orders
received from leading international mobile phone vendors, difficulties in
developing own-branded business, and falling profit margins on ODM production,
a growing number of Taiwanese mobile phone makers have been moving into the
Smartphone market, which offers high profit margins and more business
opportunities. This report presents an in-depth analysis the product lines,
customer portfolios, and business strategies of the Taiwanese Smartphone
manufacturers.
