SUMMARY
In March 2007, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Netcom all began to
award tenders for TD-SCDMA mobile communications network deployment. The
combined value of these tenders -most of which were awarded to ZTE or Datang
Mobile -exceeded 20 billion RMB. TD-SCDMA network deployment is now underway
in ten Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin. By the end of
November 2007, over 90% of the network construction work had been completed in
most of the ten cities, setting the stage for the rollout of TD-SCDMA mobile
communications service in China after more than five years of preparation.
This report will examine the current state of the TD-SCDMA industry in China,
the evolution of TD-SCDMA technology, and the supply chain that has taken
shape in this segment of the mobile communications sector.
