SUMMARY
This report quantifies the size of the markets for semiconductors and select
components used in different types of low-voltage industrial motor drives.
Motor drives are seeing double digit growth as they are becoming increasingly
used to save energy in motors, and this is an attractive end market for
semiconductor manufacturers.
There is a chapter for microcontrollers which includes DSPs,
microprocessor-based FPGAs, microprocessor-based ASICs, 16- and 32-bit MPUs
and MCUs. There is also a chapter for power semiconductors including standard
IGBT modules, Power Integrated Modules and Intelligent Power Modules. Further
detail is provided for analog components, logic, memory, optocouplers, filters
and electrolytic capacitors.
Market forecasts to 2011 are presented for both the total market and each
drive type: AC compact, AC standard, AC premium, DC, Servo, Stepper and other.
These forecasts were produced based on interviews with drives manufacturers to
determine their semiconductor strategy.
