SUMMARY
“The growth in 40 Gbps interfaces highlights the technology's continued
adoption in the network and we expect new, more cost-efficient 40 Gbps
equipment to appear in 2008,” says Roy Rubenstein, director of research
at LightCounting. “And greater maturity in 40 Gbps components and
transponders is a prerequisite for carriers to adopt 100 Gbps
technology.”
The latest Lightcounting transceiver results, discussed in the December 2007
Transceiver Sale Report, shows an increase in sales of DWDM modules and
SONET/SDH transceivers, which posted a solid 24% growth in Q3 2007,
respectively. High-data-rate interfaces including OC-192, OC-768 and 10 GigE,
proved to be among the fastest growing product categories, confirming
deployment of high-data-rate systems in telecom and enterprise networks.
The LightCounting December 2007 Transceiver report provides a complete view of
the rapidly changing optical transceiver market, offering detailed and
accurate information on various market segments and emerging technologies such
as SFP+ transceivers and 40 Gbps transponders.
The report offers detailed information on quarterly sales of more than 100
product categories covering time period from Q1 2006 to Q3 2007. It also
correlates transceiver shipments with sales of optical networking equipment
and deployment of communication systems by service providers. Data for the
report was provided by more than 20 leading transceiver vendors.
