SUMMARY

The IPTV technology ecosystem presents diverse and often complex challenges to operators deploying voice, video and data services over copper twisted pair or FTTx networks. Among the more critical challenges facing Telcos is the distribution of services to multiple devices and locations within customer premises. The distribution of digital video and other services in the home requires robust home networking technologies with predictable quality of service, high levels of performance and ease of installation. Several home networking technologies and standards have emerged which can eliminate the need for homes to be rewired with CAT5 cable. In addition, the integration of advanced home networking technologies in customer premise equipment such as residential gateways, IP STBs and ONTs/iNIDs enables operators to more easily deliver and distribute services within the home. In addition to an in-depth analysis and forecasts on the global IPTV market, particular emphasis is placed on how regional subscriber forecasts will drive the consumption of IP Set Top Boxes and other key customer premise equipment. CPE unit shipment forecasts are used to provide the reader with groundbreaking forecasts for advanced home networking technologies being implemented in future Telco TV deployments. The development of these detailed forecasts considers a myriad of factors including availability of existing in home wiring solutions, technical feasibility and performance, impact on operator business case and other critical factors. This study is a vital resource for telecom operators, network equipment manufacturers, semiconductor companies, financial analysts and OEMs.
